1962 Polar 200

We bought this snowmobile in 1991 from Bud Knapp in MI. He had aquired it some years earlier in poor condition. In the late 90s my dad Wayne, and family friend Mark, gave this a thorough restoration. It is still the original 7 hp Kohler 4 cycle engine block/crankshaft/etc. The transmission, track and running gear is all original as well. Nearly the entire rear chassis is original but we had no choice but to replace much of the sheet metal on the front frame. The 1962 Polars look similar to the 1963 Arctic Cat 200/250 but has some slight differences...wrap-around windshield, welded-on track cleats, Polar Manufacturing ID tag, etc. This model does use a forward/reverse transmission. The serial number on this sled is 622-7, leading me to think that this is the 7th snowmobile ever produced by Edger Hetteens new company Polar Manufacturing. He went on to change his company name to Arctic Enterprises the very next year. It is believed that only around 30 snowmobiles were ever produced under the Polar Manufacturing name. Of those approximately 30 models, it is confirmed that some were models 200, 450 and 500.
